Accra Stadium Gets CAF Nod for Samartex and Nsoatreman

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially granted the Ghana Football Association (GFA) an exceptional permit to utilize the Accra Sports Stadium as a venue for the CAF Champions League debutants, FC Samartex 1996, and the CAF Confederation Cup newcomers, Nsoatreman FC.

This decision follows a rigorous re-homologation process initiated by the GFA’s Club Licensing Department for Ghana’s premier stadium.

CAF has explicitly stated that the stadium’s condition remains unchanged from its previous assessment, which led to its disqualification from hosting top-tier CAF and FIFA matches.

The governing body has emphasized the imperative need for the GFA and stadium management to rectify critical deficiencies, including but not limited to the pitch quality, spectator amenities, competition areas, media and medical facilities, and overall equipment standards.

It’s crucial to note that CAF has categorically denied approval for the stadium to host Category 3 matches, encompassing CAF Interclub competition group stages and senior national team encounters.

Consequently, the National Sports Authority, as the facility owner, in collaboration with the GFA, FC Samartex 1996, and Nsoatreman FC, must diligently work to rectify the stadium’s shortcomings before a subsequent inspection.

The GFA and the National Sports Authority have committed to a concerted effort to address the CAF-outlined issues and elevate the stadium’s status to accommodate Category 3 and 4 matches.
