Villa title hopes suffer huge blow after loss to Arua Hill

Table leaders missed a massive opportunity to stretch their cushion to 8 points after falling to Arua Hill at Muteesa II stadium Wankulukuku.

Second placed KCCA had earlier on lost 2-0 to URA FC at Lugazi.

It was Vipers however who took maximum advantage over their opponents’ losses to close the gap on them after beating UPDF at Bombo.

Innocent Media capitalised on a poorly headed ball by Gift Fred to slot the ball home past Martin Elungat in the 4th minute.

The Jogoos tried to fight back into the game with a series of attacks but Rogers Omedwa in Arua Hill’s goal stood out with a man of the match show.

Villa’s quest for leveller was further dented by the injury to live wire winger David Owori who was stretchered off and replaced by Seif Batte.

The second period was a one sided affair with Villa making the most of the creative work and Arua Hill employing a robust defensive approach.

Charles Bbaale, Gift Fred and Seif Batte all hit the woodwork on an evening that wasn’t meant to be Villa’s.

There was also some drama at the end of the game where Arua Hill head coach Charles Livingston Mbabazi tried to physically attack one of his defenders accusing him of negligence at the time when his team were fighting for their life.

Victory pushes Arua Hill up the table to 6th, level on points with 5th placed BUL. They next face Gaddafi at home on 22nd this month.

Villa will hope to revive their title challenge when they visit perennial nemesis KCCA FC on Sunday at Lugogo.

They remain top of the log with 43 points.
