Nigerian Legends Eguavoen, Okocha Set for CAF Symposium in Ivory Coast

Abidjan, the dynamic capital of Ivory Coast, is preparing to host the highly anticipated TotalEnergies CAF Afcon Ivory Coast 2023 Coaches Symposium, a prestigious gathering of football legends and coaching elites from across the African continent.

This historic event, scheduled for September 12–13, will be a platform for celebrating football heritage and discussing the future of the sport in Africa.

The symposium will feature an array of iconic personalities, including Super Eagles interim coach Austin Eguavoen and Austin Jay Jay Okocha, one of Nigeria’s most beloved former midfielders. The event will bring together an impressive lineup, such as Otto Addo, Ghana’s current national team coach, and South Africa’s Mark Fish, who played a crucial role in his country’s football success.

Also attending are Senegal’s celebrated forward El Hadji Diouf and Gadji Celi from Ivory Coast, with the legendary Antoine Bell, a former goalkeeper for Cameroon, joining them.

Other notable participants include Pape Thiaw of Senegal and Luis Boa Morte, the ex-Fulham winger now coaching Guinea-Bissau. With fifty national team coaches from all of CAF’s member associations expected to attend, this will be the first such gathering of African coaching talent, setting the stage for a historic exchange of ideas and strategies.

The event will allow these leading African coaches, including Emerse Faé, who led Ivory Coast to their recent Afcon victory, to share their knowledge, foster camaraderie, and collaborate on new ways to advance the sport throughout the continent.
